You Are More Enlightened Than You Think: A Talk by One of TM’s Leading Brain Scientists
mardi, 7 juillet à 2h00 - 3h30 EDT
With M Teacher John Cowhig, and Special Guest Dr. Fred Travis.
By leading to a 4th state of consciousness, characterized by restful alertness, Transcendental Meditation improves health, creativity, and alertness. But how can we prove these effects are real and not imagined? By measuring them.
Modern science can confirm the unique state gained during TM. Standard tests verify a decrease in Sympathetic Activation – the stress response system — which validates the settled wakefulness we experience during meditation. But the most dramatic changes happen in the brain. Our guest this Tuesday, Dr. Fred Travis, will demonstrate how the brain “wakes up” during meditation, and how the brain signature of restful alertness is seen more and more during the day after meditation practice.
With over 35 years of experience researching the brain, Dr. Travis is a leading expert in the neuroscience of consciousness. He’ll share his personal journey into learning TM and discuss how he and other scientists have helped decode the mysteries of optimal brain functioning.
Dr. Travis earned his Master’s and PhD in psychology, specializing in the brain and consciousness, from Maharishi International University in 1988. Following a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at UC. Davis, where he studied brain changes during sleep, he returned to M.I.U. in 1990 to direct research at the Center for Brain, Consciousness, and Cognition.
Since then, he has authored 97 papers and presentations investigating the relationship between brain patterns, states of consciousness, and TM practice. His recent work explores the brain patterns of meditators who report experiencing enlightenment, as well as those of world-class performers, and how these patterns develop over a lifetime.
Please join us for a mind-expanding look into the astonishing world of our magnificent brain — our inner universe — and discover how TM can make it work at its best.
Begins with a 20-minute group TM starting at at 2:00 PM ET / 11:00 AM PT
