Canadian TM teacher John Cowhig shares his journey, starting with learning the TM technique in 1967 and meeting TM Founder Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. In 1970, Maharishi certified him as a TM teacher at a retreat facility on the banks of the Ganges River in Rishikesh, India. In 1974, he joined Maharishi’s international staff and served as his personal secretary for the next three years, working with him wherever he went.
He recounts many profound conversations and experiences he had with Maharishi during those years.

John represented Maharishi and the TM organization in various capacities for 14 years, traveling to over 90 countries. His roles included co-organizing the first Latin American TM Teacher Training Course (TTC) in Medellin, Colombia, in 1978, and leading numerous TTCs and TM-Sidhi® courses around the world.

Recently, John contributed to the editing team for the groundbreaking book Consciousness Is All There Is (Hay House, 2024) by Tony Nader, MD, PhD, MARR, the MIT- and Harvard-trained neuroscientist and head of the international TM organizations.

John lives on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, in a Maharishi Vastu® home overlooking the ocean and his birthplace, Vancouver. He serves on the board of the Canadian TM organization and other boards, and hosts a weekly webinar showcasing worldwide TM projects and leaders.

In July 2024, he published a book of poetry, Finding Out, and is currently working on an autobiography that will detail his 17 years with Maharishi.
